Division of Investigation case files, 1935-1943.

This series contains the primary documentation relating to individual investigations, including reports, letters, depositions and other correspondence between local and national Work Projects Administration (WPA) officials, field investigations, and Justice Department personnel. Narrative reports prepared by an investigator are generally present in each case file folder and include the name and address of subjects of the investigation, summary of charges and statements of witnesses, and conclusions of investigators. Correspondence with the Justice Department U.S. Attorney's office indicates whether or not the complaint was referred and accepted for prosecution in Federal court. The case files concern such matters as the falsification of WPA time reports, padding of WPA payrolls, fraudulent contract practices, and violations of the Hatch Act.
